Apocalypse Runners Up by one point for USFTL National Championship – Jan. 2009. Orlando, Florida - Apocalypse cruised through the winners bracket undefeated, and defeated Quick Strike in the first game of the USFTL National Championship Tournament in Orlando. Quick Strike emerged from the Losers Bracket and defeated Apocalypse twice in two very close, controversial games. In the first game It was tied and no time was left on the clock. The referees awarded Quick Strike an untimed play on a hacking call as time expired. Quick Strike’s HB launched a Hail Mary which was batted down but ricocheted off an Apocalypse player into the arms of Quick Strike. This game was controversial because the refs awarded Quick Strike 5 downs in an earlier series that led to a TD that never should have been on the board. In the final game Quick Strike scored on fourth down with 28 seconds on the clock on a controversial QB keeper running play with several blockers in front of the QB. Screening is allowed but not forceful blocking. The refs allowed the TD and Quick Strike was up by one point. Apocalypse quickly drove the ball to the 40 where John Wassmer tried a 50 yard field goal with 5 seconds left and missed wide left. He had the distance. Credit is due Quick Strike which proved they were a match for Apocalypse. Every game was close and down to the wire. We look forward to playing them again somewhere, sometime. Even though Apocalypse was missing 4 starters on defense, Apocalypse refused to use that as an excuse. Later, the team unanimously decided to blame John Wassmer, alone, for the loss of the National Championship… RELATED LINKS: Flag Football Magazine | Florida Sports Foundation | USFTL | Florida Flag Football |
